I’m writing this post two weeks before it actually publishes. That’s because I’ll be somewhere up, near, or around Glacier National Park when this sends. Right now, I’m in the midst of getting ready for said vacation, and I’m also only two weeks into the launch of Paths Unknown (Please Review!).
I realized yesterday that I’ve never done a summer release before. At least not in the past several years. Ever since my kids got old enough to be in school full time, it’s worked out that my releases have always been during the school year. I didn’t realize what a difference that made until now, because I am definitely on overload at the moment! My brain can’t seem to keep up with what I need to do, and even though I am convinced that I’ll have enough time to do all the small tasks on my list on any given day, half the time I just…don’t. It shouldn’t surprise me. That’s bound to happen when your daughter has aspirations of being a fish, and thus wants you to spend several hours of each day at the pool with her. It’s not a bad way to spend a summer, but it makes this professional authoring thing a little tough.
I think I burned myself out a little. Originally I was planning to release a second book in the fall, since that has been my usual schedule. One in the spring, one in the fall. But I’m letting myself off the hook this time. Hopefully having Refusing Mia (which is free when you sign up for my newsletter, or $.99 on amazon) will tide you all over until I release another book in March because the last thing I want to do is push myself so hard that I start to resent my own writing.
I am not someone who thrives under stress. I don’t enjoy doing lots of things at once. I have a couple of sisters-in-law who thrive in that kind of environment, and I am in awe of them. They do ALL THE THINGS and they LOVE it. But I like my calm. I like my relaxation. So hopefully, by the time y’all are reading this, I will have found a healthy dose of that calm while basking in the wilds of a national park.
Wishing you all a healthy dose of calm as you go on your way.
