Retreat! Retreat!
Well, friends. I did it! My two writerly sisters and I have completed our inaugural Story Sisters Writing Workshop and Retreat, and I gotta be honest—I couldn’t be happier!

I’m thrilled with how it turned out. I met ten amazing women! Everyone who came was lovely and kind. There were lots of introverts (we are writers, after all) but everyone was able to make each other comfortable and lots of genuine connections were made. We had people come from Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho, and even Kansas and Tennessee!
We ate good food together. Jana, Kimberly, and I each taught three classes (that was the most nerve-wracking part for me). We held a first-chapter critique so everyone could get feedback on their works in progress. We had lots of quiet writing time that gave everyone (including me) a chance to implement what we’d learned from the classes, and by the last night, everyone felt comfortable and confident enough to read one of their favorite scenes out loud to the group. And y’all…they were so good! I was impressed with everyone’s writing, and I loved hearing the variety of genres and the incredible amount of creativity.
I’m so excited that we were able to make this happen. None of us could have done it alone (we would not have been brave enough), but with our secret sibling powers combined, it felt doable, and do it, we did!

And despite the fact that it only ended three days ago, we’re already brainstorming options for the next one. So if you think you might be interested, fill out the form!
Personally, I was able to use the quiet writing time to make some progress on my next fairytale retelling. I added almost 6,000 words, and for someone who was playing hostess, I feel like that was pretty good for three days. I also figured out better motivations for my characters while I was sitting in one of Jana’s classes, and I’ve got ideas for how to improve my side characters after one of Kimberly’s classes.
That means it’s time for me to get back to writing! And hopefully, you can get back to reading!
